Milestone In The Making!

Ahhh....deep breaths! This week was nothing but a killer and I mean that in a good way. After not doing any type of workout on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (unless you count working long hours at the Bangor Y's Spring Fair and hauling 5-6 cases of soda at a time to load up the cooler a workout, oh and not to mention a nice little spin on the mechanical bull...which may I say afterwards, my thighs were killing me!). It was time to get back into routine on Monday and since I was able to get out of work a little on the early side...off to Group Step it was. Now mind you, I was still sore from the weekend, so taking this class was going to be a challenge. So many jumps, legs lifts, squats and oh yeah...stepping up on the step, by the end of class my legs were telling me no more!

Then Tuesday came and it was our first workout of the week with our trainer. After the four of us weighed in to see where we were at from last Thursday (our fifth team member was out), our trainer wasn't to thrilled that we were a little on the up side (yours truly was only up .4lbs...which wasn't bad since I really hadn't done a thing since the last weigh in). So off to our workout we went....and if we thought what we had done before today was tough...we hadn't seen nothing yet! Breaks were very, very limited...if there was even any, I can't really remember. In between each round, we had a nice "intermission" which consisted of the following: one minute burpees, one minute mountain climbers and one minute of jumping jacks (we did these 3 times!). For the workout itself, we did the following for one minute each three times: inchworms (which are when you inch yourself down into a push-up, do the push-up and then inch yourself back up again), suicides half-way down then all the way down (but when you came back to starting point you had to do a bear crawl back!), jumping ball squats and cross-puches with 12lb weights. After finishing there, it was off to the treadmill where we ran for two minutes, then ball squats with overhead lifts for two minutes. We did these two times before we went to cool down.

Wednesday came and I was running behind, so I didn't make it to Group Groove class...so off to the fitness center I went. Before I started my workout, I decided to weigh myself just to see where I was at and I couldn't believe my eye's...I was up again! Thinking that I needed to do something about this, off I went with my MP3 player to the elliptical and rocked up for 50 minutes! Over 400 calories burned later, I was feeling pretty darn good.....although I sure as heck didn't look pretty but eh, who cares.....I didn't.

Now I've come to today....weigh in day! The one day of the week that I look forward to but wasn't this week. I was still freaking out over the fact that I was up yesterday and I just had this really bad feeling that it wasn't going to be my week, I really didn't want to let my team members down. I was next to the last one to be weighed in (my team member who missed Tuesday's workout was going to be arriving later for her weigh in....another workout she was going to miss). As I stepped on to the scale and the numbers started changing...I couldn't believe my eye's.....down 1.8lbs since last week! I was so happy that I didn't care what the workout was going to be...all I was thinking was "bring it".

So downstairs we went, after our warm-up (burpees, mountain climbers and jumping jacks!) it was time to kick some butt! We started off with 5 different stations where we did each thing for one minute, station one was inverted rows (in other words, pull-ups with your feet still on the ground), station two was inchworms, station three was step-ups with a ball, station four was standing v-twist with ball and the ever so popular full body workout where you take a half-tire filled with sand and move it from the top of a box to the floor, then back up and then back down to the floor switching sides each time was station five. Then it was back to what we did as a warm-up and then it was back to the same five stations, only this time we took out the inverted rows and added in the treadmill. We did two more times of this workout and when it was my last time on the treadmill downstairs, one of my teammates made a comment about me going "to slow"....so what does one do, up the speed to 6.7mph!

After we were done downstairs, we went back to the main fitness center were our favorite machines were just waiting for us....the treadmill! You know what the meant....speed interval time! We did three rounds this time but unlike the other day's, there was no getting off the treadmill. Round one was at a 3% incline which a slight job for two minutes, then drop to 0% incline and kick up the speed for two minutes. Round two, 4% incline and then back down to 0%. Round three, 5% incline and then back down to 0%. Fastest speed for me this time was 5.2mph...didn't really want to hurt myself, but did run/jog for 13 minutes straight without falling off or hurting myself! By the very end...although I was tired, I felt really good and ready for the day.

One Crazy Week(3/20-3/26)

This week's blog is going to be short and sweet but no worries, the workout's were nothing but intense! After both day's, my body was so sore. We did some of our old favorites: mountain climbers, burpees and jumping jacks! But for the workout themselves....well, lets just say that our trainer decided to not only continue working our "Hollywood thighs" but to incorporate some of our "old" workouts in too!

Somewhere between the sumo squat walks, T push-ups and running on the treadmill...I somehow managed to find the strength to make it to 4 classes this week and work out in the fitness center. Hey, what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger....right?!?!?!?!

Hollywood Thighs Anyone?????

The workouts this past week were to say the very least....interesting. First, let me start off saying that I did get in my extra workouts but it was tough! I ended up coming down with my very first cold of the winter season (and here I thought I was doing really good in not getting sick, darn!) and wasn't feeling like my normal self....whatever that may be.

Our first team workout on Tuesday morning wasn't that bad, but within the first 10 minutes I kinda had all of my teammates scared and thinking that I shouldn't be there. The reason being, I turned as white as a ghost and was not feeling so good. I then left the workout room, took a little breather, splashed some water on my face and went back to the workout room to finish what I'd started. I'm not one who gives up that easily, sick or not!

My teammates were completely surprised that I wanted to finish the workout and not call it a day. But I am a stubborn person and it's one thing that I'm proud of. By the end of the workout, which consisted of doing the following 50 times each, two times around: inverted pull-ups, squats with weights, lunges with 10lb weight, push-ups, over head presses and dead lifts, followed by our cool-down and stretches, I was feeling much better and the color was finally coming back to my face!

Thursday's training was a blast and due to this workout is where this week's title came from! We did lots of lower body workouts: sumo squats, sumo squat/walks, planks with side toe touches, burpees with leg lifts (remember to squeeze those glutes!), side lung with leg lift while holding 10lbs. From there we moved on to one minute full body workouts: more burpees(!), jumping jacks, squats with side kicks and mountain climbers. Then it was time to work the upper body (oh yeah) with the following: T push-ups, over head presses, inverted pull-ups, sprint on the treadmill and over head ball slams (which I love and is a great way to get some anger out!).  Usually by this time we would be heading upstairs for our cool-down and stretches but since we had some extra time on our hands, it was back to the lower body workout for one last time!

By the end of Thursday's training...my hollywood thighs were starting to talk to me but it wasn't until I finished the low dance during Group Groove Thursday night, that my hollywood thighs were REALLY screaming at me!

I decided that it may be best to take an easy on Friday and not do anything that required a lot of lower body but that didn't quite work out, due to all of the walking one had to do. Saturday wasn't to bad, I started off with a 15 minute warm-up on the elliptical, followed by an awesome hour of Group Groove and finished with an 8 minute run (yes, that's right I said run) on the treadmill.

Here's to hoping that this coming week's weigh in shows how much I've been putting in to my workouts, since this past week there was no change on the scale. And with promise of Spring  in the air and warmer weather on the way....who knows, maybe I'll be able to start running outside!

Feeling the intensity!

Well, two more weeks have passed since the Biggest Mover has started and the workouts have been getting harder. But the sad part is, the other day my trainer sid that they're only going to get better - which means "more intense"!

She really loves these things called "speed intervals". For one minute we're running/jogging on the treadmill  at a 6% incline, then for the next minute we drop to a 0% incline but increase the speed. We do these three times and each time you keep increasing your speed, so the very last set you're going your fastest! We've also been doing a few things that I'm not a huge fan of (but am doing them anyways!), like burpies and mountain climbers. After a while, my thighs and legs are killing me.

On top of our workouts with our trainer, she wants us to get an extra three hours of cardio in a week. I'm thinking that this past week I may of went a little overboard with this homework assignment. Granted, on my training day's that's all I did....but on my non-training day's, I did go a little crazy. In three day's I did the following workouts: Group Step (at 5:45am!), 3 Group Groove classes (opted out of the 4th one), Group Power, Pilates (awesome core workout) and a half an hour on the elipitcal. I don't know about you but I'm thinking that I made my homework assignment. Let's see how long I can keep this up, oh and that's not including that I didn't make it to one of my classes due to the fact that I set my alarm clock for PM instead of AM...did to do better this week!

On a plus side, in one month I managed to loose 6.6lbs and 10 inches. Two more months left of the Biggest Mover, who knows...I might be in shape in the very end for the marathon after all!
