I now that it's been a while since I've written anything (I've been slacking once again) but I am happy to report that the past few months I have been working towards my biggest goal....which is to finally get down to my ideal weight!
When I last wrote I talked about doing the Biggest Mover again and hoping that this time around I'd see some changes unlike last time when within the 12-week program I only lost 2 pounds! Yeah, I wasn't a fan of that. Anyways, I'm happy to say that I was able to loose much more than that 2 pounds this time around :)
I also did take notes as to what some of my training's and weeks were like....so let's go back to mid-January when it all began.
"Week one of the Biggest Mover was a killer and I'm not lying. Let's just say that I've now nicknamed my two training days as "Killer Monday" and "Torture Tuesday", which pretty much describes our workouts. I did however manage to loose .4lbs for my first week, not a whole lot but at least it's in the right direction! I was also happy with the fact that I was able to keep up with the two guys on my team. I didn't want them thinking that I was going to be a weak link on our team and I'm thinking that after our workouts, they're not thinking that. The following days after our workouts, I was extremely sore...so sore that it hurt to not only go up stairs but also to either sit or squat. Yep...that made for some fun work days! By the time the weekend came around I was finally able to move like a normal human being, so I made my way into the gym for my "extra" workouts for the week and I was also able to do our warm-up routine a few mornings. Trust me, it's very easy to feel like skipping that routine (staying in bed always sounds like a much better option!) but I did it.
When week two started, I was excited compared to last week when I was a nervous wreak and scared since I didn't know what was to come. Two of my teammates were going to be joining me for the first time (one had been on vacation and the other one was sick) but then I received the news that one of them was dropping out, she just didn't have the time for it anymore....and I have to say that I was sad to hear this but at the same time okay with her decision. So, now we're down to a team of 4 instead of 5.
Our first night was a killer but then again it was "Killer Monday". We spent the entire hour working out our lower body using either just our body or caring hand weights (mine were 12lbs) in each hand while using the giant tire. For those of you who don't know, downstairs in our weight room (also known as the "torture chamber") is a huge tire that was once on a tractor trailer. We had to climb on it, go over it and even use it for squats. At one point in the evening, while we were to be going over the tire my weights started to slip from my hands and the next thing I know, I'm going down and down I went! The weights went one way and my body slammed right into the tire, as I look back on it now I'm sure it was quite funny...although no one was laughing. Our second night was nothing but upper body and who was there to greet us once again, why the tire that's who! But the good news was that I didn't have to be climbing through it tonight. Nope instead I got to have the pleasure of beating it up and I do have to say that was my favorite workout of the night. My least favorite was when I had to do pull-ups while keeping my body straight on the ground. It sounds simple but when you reach the bottom and find yourself lying on the floor and have to pull yourself up, it's not fun...although it did give people a good laugh! Some days being short does not work towards my advantage :( The weigh in for week 2 was much better than the first week, I was down 1.6lbs...yeah me :)
Week three came and went without any weigh ins or working out with my teammates. I had to take a week away from everything and take care of a few personal issues that were going on in my life, but I do have to say that I did my best to stay motivated while I was away from the gym. Trying to keep my diet in check, along with making sure that I got in some form of exercise. Good thing I was staying in a location where it was sunny, I was able to get outside for my workouts instead of being inside all the time!
I came back home just in time for week four to being and I have to be honest, when it came time for me to weigh in I didn't know what the scale was going to say. Was it going to be nice or was it going to be mean? Lucky for me it decided to be nice...down 1.8lbs since my last weigh in two weeks ago. The next few days were going to be a challenge for me as I was once again leaving the comforts of home for the northern Maine woods. Granted it's not like I was going to be living outside (get real people, it's the dead of winter in Maine!), I would be staying in a condo but the resources I had back home would not be around, nor would there be people around to push me. Time for another test, could I pass it?
Week five came and as much as I tried to match the previous weeks weight loss, it just didn't happen. In fact, I was slightly disappointed with myself...I was up .2lbs. Granted that's not a lot and it's something that I shouldn't freak out about but for someone like me who's struggled their whole life to loose weight, seeing the scale go up and not down is sad :( That night I put everything I had in me to get everything I could from the workout and with it only being two of us that night, there was no room for slacking or hiding!
By the time week six started, I was feeling confident that I was down in my weight, even if it was just a little bit. After Mondays night workout (which we've now renamed from "Killer Monday" to "Murderous Monday") and the second week in a row my trainer has made me feel like I was going to throw up at some point during the workout, I was ready to see what the scale had in store for me. As I was getting ready to hop on, all I kept thinking was "please be down from last week, please be down". When the number finally stopped and smile crept across my face....I was down .8lbs, not huge but it was going in the right direction and I was ready for whatever my trainer had in store...bring on "Torture Tuesday"!
Week seven found me away from everyone once again. This time I was in sunny Florida for my vacation. Normally most people arrive in Florida and stay in one location but no not me...I'm the type of person who likes to travel around and guess who does all the driving while in Florida, yep that's right...this gal. If you ever want to experience a great ab workout then I truly suggest driving through Orlando during 5 o'clock rush-hour traffic, it really gets the heart pumping! Unlike last time I was away for a long period of time, I didn't get in as much walking as I'd hope. With me also being sick one day, I didn't feel like doing a whole lot.
I'm hoping that as week eight draws near and the finale is getting ever so close, I didn't mess myself up while I was away and I was able to loose a few pounds. I would love to loose a grand total of 15 pounds by the final weigh in and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I do make it. With only three weeks left with my trainer and two weeks on my own, I'll be able to do it....wish me luck!"
That's all I had written for notes, but I can tell you that the last three weeks with my trainer were nothing short of some tough workouts! By the time we reached the two weeks we were by ourselves, he had given us the right tools to help us in our weight loss journey. I'm happy to report that by the final weigh in in April, I was able to to make my goal of loosing 15 pounds plus one...that's right, I managed to loose a grand total of 16lbs! I'm also happy to report that our team came in first place and one of my teammates also came in second place in the overall finish...go NAVY TEAM!
Since April, I've been going to the gym (or doing something outside) for at least 3 times a week for no shorter than a half an hour and even though my workouts are not as crazy as they have been, I have been able to keep my weight right around where I ended things in April. I'm now only 37.6 pounds away from where I want to by...who knows maybe I can make it there by the end of 2013. We shall see!
